Our Foster Family

Chihuahua Rescue Queensland does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are looked after in loving foster homes for the duration of their stay in our care. Our foster team are a motivated, passionate and committed team of volunteers who love their foster dogs and treat each and every one of them as a member of the family.

We are always looking for more foster carers to join our team. Foster carers need to be located within a reasonable distance of our veterinary hospitals which are located at Jindalee, Capalaba and Browns Plains. We do not generally accept foster carers who are more then 25km from one of our veterinary hospitals due to the difficulty in the distance.

What’s involved?

vet visits

Foster carers need to be able to transport their dogs to veterinary visits, which can sometimes be as frequent as weekly. We also ask foster carers to be willing to bring their dogs to adoption events.

environment

As a foster carer you get to welcome a little dog into your family, and help them become ready for adoption. It is a requirement that the dog is inside and included as part of the family. Spending time in a home environment helps our dogs become more socialised and helps you to get to know their personalities and requirements, ready to find their forever family.

adoption meet & greets

Foster carers usually conduct meet and greets between their foster dog and potential adoptive families, however this is with the support and training of the CRQ team.

positive community

The Chihuahua Rescue Queensland team do all we can to provide a positive community of carers who feel that they have the support and backing of the committee. CRQ have a foster care liaison who contacts each carer on a weekly basis to provide support and advice, and arrange supplies such as food, parasite prevention and medications.

LOVE, CARE & SUPPORT

There are a range of different roles a foster carer can take, whether it be providing stable, long term care for a special needs dog, or opening their homes for just a few days for temporary care, or to provide respite to a long term foster. We work hard to get to know each and every foster family so we can match suitable dogs to your home. In the event a foster dog is unsuitable for your family, we endeavour to support our carers and move the dogs to a more suitable foster home as quickly and smoothly as possible.
